The Connection Between Your Health & Eyes

There’s an inextricable link between your eyes and overall health, but you can help strengthen that relationship—even if you live with other health conditions like diabetes

Strategic lifestyle changes and nutritional support can help you preserve your eye health and maintain your quality of life. We can help guide you through these changes with our comprehensive eye exam process.

Personalizing Your Nutrition Plan

What you eat can also help support the health and well-being of your eyes. Choosing the right foods and vitamins for your eye care needs can help lower your risk of developing sight-stealing conditions while also maintaining clear, comfortable sight.

We tailor your nutrition plan based on our findings from your eye exam, but rest assured, we’re always ready to tweak our suggestions to better cater to your eyes as their needs evolve.

Foods for Improved Eyesight

Vitamins A, E, and C can play a significant role in maintaining your vision throughout your life. You can find these vital vitamins in:

  • Carrots
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Apricots
  • Cantaloupes

Vitamins E and C can help keep your eye cells in tip-top shape and safeguard your retina from specific diseases. You can find these essential vitamins in:

  • Oranges
  • Tangerines
  • Grapefruits
  • Avocados
  • Almonds

Omega-3 fatty acids have been extensively researched for their contribution to healthy tear production and managing dry eyes. You can typically find these nutrients in foods like:

  • Salmon
  • Fish
  • Tuna
  • Sardines
  • Trout

Macular pigment is found at the center of the retina and is composed of 3 critical carotenoids, lutein, meso-zeaxanthin, and zeaxanthin. It protects the retina, where our vision is sharpest.

A deficiency of macular pigment can lead to poor visual performance and vision loss from diseases such as macular degeneration. You can find these essential carotenoids in:

  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Orange and yellow peppers
  • Supplements, such as MacuHealth
